KY Ready Corps 2018-2023

Between May 2018 and August 2023, KY Ready Corps, a Kentucky AmeriCorps Disaster Services Program engaged hundreds of college aged students and other adults passionate about helping communities and serving vulnerable individuals so they could be better preprared and respond and recover better from emergencies and disasters while gaining valuable professional experience.

Sites where members served were diverse, and included community and senior centers, emergency management agencies, food banks and pantries, public health departments, agencies serving youth and non-English speaking populations and even sustainable garden projects. Common disaster services activities of KY Ready members were community education andoutreach, volunteer coordination and support, and preparedness assessments and plans. Our members were instrumental in helping their communities in many ways throughout the 2020-2023 COVID-19 pandemic.

As with all AmeriCorps programs, KY Ready members earned significant benefits, including a living allowance, a Segal Education Award at end of service, professional training and experience, and the knowledge that they were helping and giving back to their communities.
